1982 Magarey Medal Presentation
Переглядів 82113 років тому
The last 12 or so minutes of the Magarey Medal presentation from 1982. Glenelg's Tony McGuiness wins the medal and is rendered pretty much speechless. Great achievement for an 18 year old in his first full season of SANFL football.

Cornes after 1990GF
Переглядів 1,8 тис.13 років тому
Cornes addresses Port players and officials after the 1990 Grand Final.
And now nobody could give a damn about shield cricket ):
Come here to check out what chaos 'Grave Danger' caused in this game, after his recent death. He was obviously a dirty bastard, loved by Port and hated by everyone else but despite the immense ability everyone said he had, when his time came to put his head over the footy and win it @ 3.18 , he shit himself and kicks the bloke who was prepared to. And correct me if I'm wrong South Aussies, did that fella get a broken leg and miss the GF? Poor form
Yep. Broke his leg. I don't mind tough footy buy I eschew thuggery. And in Granger's case it was often king hits which are a form of cowardice. Along a similar line, there is no footage of the incident but the word is Barrie Robran had his career ruined by Leigh Matthews who went and got him in a pre meditated "hit" during a SA v Vic State game. If true, I think that kind of cheap shot thuggery disqualifies him from "greatest footballer" status. Tough but fair should be the goal....not back street thuggery.
Young Bruce McAvaney at the end! 🤩
Not sure I've seen many better goals than that one.
Not from the dead pocket at Football Park anyway! Eddie did something special there from memory. I also remember Trevor Grenfell (North Adelaide) nailing a drop punt set shot starting from outside the boundary about 25m out
Simply a dirty, sniping ,gutless act.
Sadly Glenelg sucked North into a fight, whilst they played football and showed discipline. I hate the result of course, because I hate Glenelg, but this was an excellent performance against a team which was better on paper. An underrated win which I class as Glenelg's finest flag victory. It's the only won where they won against the odds.
I can't be arsed editing the word 'won' for 'one' either.
People always go on about us being the wet weather side, whilst Glenelg have been viewed as not being so adept in those conditions. However, I have more recollection of Glenelg winning the majority of encounters in this weather.
What a champion he was.
I think Gilchrist is still batting from this game
I only just heard about Grave Danger Dave Granger because of an interview Cornes gave in Perth radio in March 2023. Cornes called him one of the dirtiest and dangerous players. My criticism is Port who clearly allowed it to continue. They could have stopped it. Some say that they encouraged it. I don't know.
hahaha, siren sounds like a car horn
Popular win by sa.
Glenelg 85 v Essendon 85.....that would have been interesting
Don't be silly
Maynards nickname must be oscar
Since this day, the Redbacks have been a poster of ineptness
I skipped school (Adelaide High School) to watch the last day and got caught on TV by the news lol It was still worth it
Game of the finals series. Port needed luck and hit the post five times, whilst the Bays took their chances. 1987 was the year Port were expected to deliver and they didn't quite get there - they kicked themselves out of both finals games. Sad way for Ebert to go out, but the decision to appoint Cahill was the right one. Two weeks later and I did enjoy watching the Roosters knock the stuffing out of Glenelg - a crumb of comfort for the hurt of this loss
Out of all the SANFL players in this 1973 SANFL Grand Final match, are any of them sadly no longer with us?
Love Scotty... Bought me my first glass of scotch as a young fella. Can't say this was a great moment but he was a great bloke off the field.
A day that began to realise Port were cheats. They tried every dirty trick. Once found out have done nothing since.
It's interesting back then to see a VFL footy program highlight something from SANFL and also say they'd give out scores of SANFL and WAFL later in the program. This just wouldn't happen nowadays. The AFL is so elite in its mindset that it wouldn't even consider mentioning other leagues in it's media and I think footy in Australia is poorer for it.
Wow... 40 years ago today (25/4/2022)
Glenelg lost daft games in 1988 and left themselves with too much to do. In the first series of matches, they were the best side overall until a loss to West and mid-season slump. They recovered with a big win at Prospect and had it in the bag against us in Round 20. Another daft loss to West left needing to get there from the Elimination Final. With double chance, they could have won this, but it was still a brave showing.
the prelim final win against norwood was the game of the finals was their personal Grand final
Siddons 4 from 130 odd balls. Amazing innings
My dad was there that day. Absolutely stunning
This brawl was weak af compared to origin
Great performance back when SA had a competitive team.
27 years of futility
Peter mac what a legend
had a great time playing with his brother david, at glenleg, then he went to the blues with sticks.happy days
A lot of wax
Foster should still have nightmares about his cheating.
Thanks for video really enjoyed watching the game and commentators did great job will watch again
Great memories of SANFL @ Footy Park
Do these commentators know what pitching outside leg stump means?
Impartial view here (I'm from Perth). While Caldwell was off balance Granger came in from behind and got him with a left uppercut. Absolute thuggery.
they were tough against 8 other teams....but when it came to port over the years ,they were ports bunnies
Stringer snipers
Glenelg highlights only from a neutral observer. Port Adelaide went on to capture another premiership at season’s end. The club’s fifth from the past six seasons (1994-96, 98-99) and ninth since 1988 (1988-90, 92). Tiger supporters still suffer from nightmares of the Magpies dominance during this period with three grand finals losses to the “swampies” in 1988, 90, 92.
Sucked in Cornes, that smile was wiped off a week later
14:02 Seeing Jamie Siddons lift up the Sheffield Shield for South Australia made up for the pain of copping an inning and 101 run thumping at the hands of Queensland in the 1994 - 95 Sheffield Shield final.
Great upset by Norwood
Brighton road such a fortress. Miss the 80s footy.
Bring it back???
Trevor Sorrell used to own the local indoor cricket centre and i always used to rib him about that game when little zip zap planted one on him
The good ol days
best moment of my life, and i was only 10, i was up the northern end with my parents, couldnt see a thing in the last 15 minutes, when cornes took THAT mark my dad lifted me onto his shoulders so i could see the kick, still raises the hairs on my neck watching it!
how was jimmy rawsons effort when north won the ball out of the centre after studleys goal? have seen these highlights many times in 47 years and never realised until now how jimmy maybe saved the day! great stuff!!
